Papa Biggy Returns To The Frontline

(e3media)--In a few days Papa Biggy will be releasing his comeback album appropriately named Return To The Frontline.

The singer, who once impacted the music scene with biting social commentaries such as Stop Dem, Under the Plane Wing, Times of Trouble, Freedom to Mandela and How You Plant Corn is now ready to take his career to the frontline after migrating to the States in 2001.

Return to the Frontline, according to Courtney Porteous aka Papa Biggy, will be offering a "little of everything". In the mix will be dancehall, culture, lovers rock and "it inspirational and educational while very entertaining at the same time," the dancehall artiste told Observer.

Papa Biggy says a lot of himself went into the album and some of the tracks are about his life's experiences - both good and bad. "It's about the mistakes I've made and progress I have made spiritually as a person. Inspiration for it also comes from everyday experiences of life in general," he shared about the 14-track album.

Tracks on the album include Better life, Crime Wave, Hail Brethren, Reconcile and Family ties. The first single off the album Crime Wave is set to be released later this month on Life Force production label and will be available worldwide.

Papa Biggy was born in Western Kingston where he lived till his parents migrated in the mid-seventies. He then went to live with his grandmother in St Ann and attended Ferncourt High School. It was while attending Ferncourt that he got involved musically and became a member of the school's choir and also found out that he had the ability to write songs. His first composition, Falkland Crisis earned him the title National DJ champion in 1982; a gold award and a scholarship in music sponsored by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission was the basis on which his musical career began to grow.

Papa Biggy later went to record for producers such as Henry 'Junjo' Laws, Sly & Robbie, Techniques, Steelie & Clevie, Jammys and Black Scorpio.

Since being on the scene, Papa Biggy has performed in some of New York's most famous halls including Madison Square Gardens, The Ritz, The Lincoln Center and The Town Hall. He has also been to Canada, Costa Rica, Bermuda, Cayman and Trinidad and Tobago. Locally he has graced the stages of most reggae events such as Sting and Reggae Sunsplash. The already successful Reggae DJ went on to do a short stint with Byron Lee and The Dragonaires.

Since he migrated to the States Papa Biggy took a short break from the biz then went back to producing music under the LifeForce Production Studio, partnering with long-time friend and business associate Richie Flex of Nocturnal Records and Ras David of Earthforce Music. The partnership produced several top rhythms such as Fire Ball featuring various artistes such as Luciano, Sizzla, Yami Bolo, Ras David, Natty King, Darrio Danejah, Moses I, and others; the DNA Riddim featuring Ras David and Darrio Danejah proved to be equally successful.

Now focusing on Return to the Frontline which features musicians such as attorney, Johna Hex, Ras David, K-Swizz, Chris Christie, Dayne Edwards, and gifted veteran guitarist Famma Roots.

Papa Biggy told Observer that he has been mainly engaged in writing, producing and recording and he can't wait to hit the main stage. He will get his chance with his first show scheduled for October 17 in Atlanta, Georgia.

"I am returning to the stage with a new energised vibe," he promised and looking ahead he says his fans can expect an explosion of conscious lyrics and good music.
