Texas Mayor Mayor And Daughter Found Dead

(e3global)- Jayne Peters a Texas Mayor and her teenage daughter were found shot to death at their home on Tuesday night, and police are investigating it as a possible murder-suicide. Police found her and her daughter Corrine Peters, 19, both shot in the head after council members became worried the mayor did not show up to a meeting.

Cops didn't find any evidence of forced entry.

"At this point all we can really say is the investigation is just not complete," Logan told the newspaper. "There are a lot of things we need to look at."

Peters had been mayor of Coppell — a city with a population of about 40,000 just 15 miles northwest of Dallas — since 2009. She also served on the city council for more than a decade and was a contract software developer.

Peters and her daughter, who graduated high school in May, were active in their community and church.

Peters' husband died of cancer in 2008.

Clay Phillips, city manager of Coppell, called the deaths a "tremendous loss for the city, the community and region."

Logan described the mayor as pleasant and professional to a CBS affiliate. She said she is still trying to understand what happened.

"It's a tremendous loss not only from an employee standpoint, but a community standpoint and a personal lost that really I'm just trying to get a hold of right now, get my arms around it, figure out what's happened and what do we do next," Logan said.
